Henderson Libraries:Summer Reading Programs

Henderson Libraries are doing a project similar to Clark County Libraries and the goal is to get people to read more over the summer. According to Henderson Libraries, kids lose skills during the summer because they aren’t practicing and forget facts. They are calling this the “summer slide” and to help keep “brains in shape” this summer Henderson Libraries are promoting the campaign “Dream big READ”. There are two age groups for this program, ages 0-4 and 5 to 11. The incentive has you log your readers’ times into the library website and the kids’ name will be put into a drawing for prizes.

Henderson libraries didn’t forget about the teens either. They also have a teen program called “Own the Night” for ages 12 to 17. For every two hours of reading logged during the week their name will be put into a drawing for weekly prizes. Also, there is an adult program called “Between the covers”.  Adults will also be required to log in their reading times and every 60 minutes of reading will equal one entry into the bi weekly grand prize drawings. Be aware that all reading counts even bedtime stories.  You can register for the programs in person at the Henderson Libraries starting June 9th or online starting June 11th . The programs run from June 9th through August 25th.

I’ve also got some word about ThinkArt! putting together a showcase of local artists in collaboration with the libraries to help promote reading. The dates will be from June 25th through the end of August this year. Keep an eye open for more news on that.
