Children’s Concert SeriesThis Month

The city of Las Vegas’ annual Children’s Concert Series will begin this month. The series is hosted by the city’s office of cultural affairs with their mission being, ” to provide performing and visual arts planning and services to the Las Vegas Community and city departments so they can have access to, be informed about, and participate in the arts.” This year, four national touring companies will be performing at the Historic 5th Street School located at 401 S. 4th Street and the Charleston Heights Arts Center at 800 S. Brush St.

Alexander T. Wolf Misunderstood

The series will kick off this year on July 12th featuring,  The Paul Mesner Puppets. He will tell the tale of the 3 little pigs from the point of view of the misunderstood Mr. Alexander T. Wolf. “In this revealing no-squealing adaptation of Jon Scieszka’s popular book, A. Levande and her Monkey Monkey Band

The next show of the series will be held on July 18th at the Charleston Heights Arts Center. Las Vegas will welcome PBS star Meredith Levande & her Monkey Monkey Music Band. Be sure to bring your voices to this event as it is a sing along. “Monkey Monkey Music began in 2001, when educator/songwriter Meredith LeVande – acting on the way that music engaged the “whole child” – began writing and performing songs that supported children’s natural curiosity and desire to learn.” For tickets visit

Alex & Kaleidoscope Band

On July 26th the third show will be performed by Alex & the Kaleidoscope Band. Featuring a show of multicultural interactive music so be ready for some hand clapping and toe tapping music at the Historic 5th Street School. “Songs about relationships, emotions, the natural world and just plain fun music making are included with every concert.” For online tickets visit:

Jungle Book

August 1st Magik Theater from San Antonio Texas will close out the series. They will showcase a faithful adaption of a classic tale, “Based on the stories by Rudyard Kipling, our original version of “The Jungle Book” tells the unique story of Mowgli, a young boy who grows up alone in a jungle. Raised by wolves, Mowgli coexists with all the jungle animals, who teach him much about life, death and the ways of the world in which he lives.” Charleston Heights Arts Center will be the venue for this last showing of the series. The shows bring opportunities for people to expose young children to the wonderful world of live performing arts. So bring the family and enjoy some entertainment. There will be two showings for each production one at 10:30am and the other at 2pm on the scheduled performance day. Tickets are very affordable at $3 dollars each, group discounts are available.
