Best Authentic Mexican Food

Many places in Vegas claim to have authentic Mexican food but who do you think lives up to the claim? My vote is for Casa Don Juan a fabulous Mexican restaurant located downtown.  There are several ways this family owned restaurant has accomplished an authentic atmosphere and taste.

Let’s start with the restaurant’s beautiful Mexican theme decor. The walls are filled with relics that can only bring thoughts of Mexico, like cultural pictures, sombreros and Mexican inspired knicknacs. They have large plants that are housed in hand painted pots with bright colors and flowers being displayed on the sides. The thick dark stained wood tables and chairs finish off the look. Although, I did not experience the Mariachi music, I did see the band there fully dressed, chatting and practicing outside.

The decor is not the only authentic Mexican feature in the restaurant. When you walk in you are greeted with bright smiles and nods. The women are wearing the traditional colorful and ruffled dresses while the men are in nice causal slacks and button up shirts. The amazing staff always seem to be smiling and eager to help. They pay attention to customers and are more then happy to chat with you about your experience. The customer service ideology must continue in the kitchen as the food is presented nicely and comes out quickly, we waited no longer then 15 minutes.

That brings us to the most important part of the restaurant, the food. Their menu is worded primarily in Spanish but don’t fret my non speaking Spanish friends they thought of us too, all items have English translations. The menu has selections for most of your dining needs from breakfast through dinner. They offer appetizers, sandwiches, burritos, tacos, seafood, combos and more that all appeal to the Mexican food lover. The restaurant prides itself on making the food from fresh ingredients, an essential part of creating the authentic taste. More importantly the food is non greasy which tends to be a common problem at other places trying to create a taste of “Mexico”.  The atmosphere is filled with the aromas that end up fascinating the taste buds with every bite. Keep in mind when you are prepared to order to not let your eyes get bigger then your stomach because the portion sizes are generous. They also cater to those who don’t like to venture out into Mexican tastes as the menu features American breakfast choices and the always popular dinner of chicken strips, hamburgers and fries. For the 21+ diners, I recommend their festive margaritas on the rocks. It is just the right amount of sweetness with a bite of tequila.

This restaurant has a lot of appeal with it being family owned and in the cultural hub of downtown Las Vegas. If you’re hungry stop down and enjoy the authentic Casa Don Juan for a great Mexican food experience. They are hands down the best Mexican food in town. It will not break the bank either as the menu is moderately priced.

The restaurant is located on the corner of Main Street and W California Avenue. Visit their website for more info and menus at
