Public Meeting for Library Performing Art Center Rates Finally Scheduled

Here is an update on the issue about the five library performing arts center rate increases posted on June 21st. If you didn’t get to read it or need a refresher you can view it here.

Organizers were able to obtain over 5,000 signatures that were introduced  to the Library Board of Trustees, the Clark County Commission and the City Council. On July 3rd, a handful of supporters attended the county commission meeting and asked them to get involved. The commission was supportive of the issue and agreed to make it part of a meeting agenda for further discussion. This is a step in the right direction.  You can view public comments and Commissioners responses here. Scroll to the bottom and click on public comments.

On July 18th organizers attended a City Council meeting, two days after the Las Vegas Sun ran a front page article asking who is accountable to the public. Public comments where made by adults and children at the meeting with a sensible outcome by the City Council scheduling a couple of meetings with the Library District Leadership Council. Channel 13 also covered the story which aired on the 17th and 18th of July.

There has been a public meeting scheduled in September to discuss Library rental rates which is a giant step in the right direction. We need YOU from the community to attend so mark that calendar. The library board has not agreed to lower the rates, they have only agreed to discuss a decrease. This issue affects so many in our community including our performers, teachers, lovers of performing arts, organizers and many more have been put in a bind by the outrageous rate hikes. You are welcome to speak or just sit at the meeting and show support for our community. The meeting will be held on September 13th at 6pm in the Las Vegas Library.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to show the library board how much of a burden these hikes put on the Las Vegas performers, including our youth.
